Learning with PDSSA

Having grown from a service to local schools PDSSA now offer easy to learn courses and taster session in all of our Sail, Paddle and Power
disciplines to anyone that would like to take part.

Paddle

Plymouth & Devon School’s Sailing Association is Plymouth’s longest established watersports training organisation.

We are a registered charity run by volunteers to provide high quality training and experiences afloat in our Sail, Paddle and Power based disciplines.

We have been training people in Plymouth to sail for over fifty years now. If you’re interested in learning more about our roots then feel free to hop over to the “about us” pages where we are delighted to provide you with our story.

What we want you to know here is that your lessons will be run by relevantly qualified volunteers and our open sessions by qualified or suitably experienced volunteers too. We’re an approachable and friendly bunch that will introduce you to your chosen disciplines in a relaxed, no pressure environment.

We are regulated by several National Governing Bodies and regularly inspected by them.

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) govern us for our Sailing, Powerboating and shore based maritime related courses and structured learning. Their regular inspections assure that we are qualified, working to good standards, our equipment is suitable, safe and well maintained and our volunteers are suitably qualified to teach.

The Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) also inspect regularly to ensure we are capable of running safe sessions for groups of young people and we run many sessions for various groups from Schools, Scouts & Guides and all sorts of other youth groups.

Our association is formed under a constitution, we operate by several policies, regularly review our risk benefit documents and run sessions according to a set of standard operating procedures just in the same way as any commercial organisation does.

So rest assured learning with PDSSA will be a safe, enjoyable, relaxed and progressive experience. You will need to put the effort in on your courses with us as we don’t issue qualifications for attendance! Come and work with us to get the most out of the experience and be comforted that when you are awarded a certificate we are sure you are competent in the skills you’ve learnt with us. If you don’t quite make it on one of our courses we will explain why and continue to work with you with an action plan to get you through the bits we think you’d need some extra time with.
